Our Living Room Redo

It took us 2 month but it's done! We completed our floor refinishing last night in the living room. We did 3 layers of Shellac and 1 layer of water-based Polyurethane. We finished painting the walls 2 weeks ago. The lighting isn't great but the wall color is called Special White Chocolate. It's the same white we've been using throughout the house. We need to wait a week to move the furniture back. We'll be putting back up the fan blades, curtains, and replacing the light outlets/switch plates too. I need to spray paint the register vents, stencil the hydrangea's on one wall, and paint the wood furniture. That may take me a month or longer.

Living Room Renovation: Part 3

The progress on the living room renovation so far. We've got the walls puttied and have started to sand. We've sanded the floors but they need one pass with a finer grit of sandpaper. We did end up having to replace the belt sander and hand sander. The ones we had were very old and stopped working soon after starting.

It's gone a bit slower than we wanted. We had planned for both the living room and family room to be finished by Easter. It looks like the living room will be done but the family room will have to wait until after Easter.

Living Room Renovation: Part 2

I worked on the living room all afternoon yesterday. Shawn and I worked on it all evening until midnight. We found some surprises under the wallpaper. As the previous residents in the 1940's-1961 hung the wallpaper they wrote their names and dates on the walls. Amazing and very interesting. It's most likely that the wallpaper we're removing is from the 1961 papering. LOL Its almost makes us sad to paint over the names but they take up a good portions of walls. Shawn loves this type of thing.

Living Room Renovation: Part 1

Shawn and I emptied our living room on Sunday night to prepare to paint. Our living room has painted over wallpaper, done by previous owners. We haven't painted the living room before and we've owned our home for 16 yrs.We're refinishing the floors too. I had removed the Living room carpet when we move in since its was dirty old 70's shag orange carpet.

Our stuff moved around in the family room. We moved the couch and corner cabinet in from the living room. This was before I decide to remove the family room decor.

Our Exercise room turned temporary Living room. We took the decor and end tables to basement.

Redoing Shawn Jr's Old Bedroom: Part 3

We finally got a few things finished up in our son's old bedroom. We spent about $25 to redo the bedroom. That doesn't include the ceiling fan that we bought 6 yrs. ago but hadn't installed until now. We have things left to do but are happy that the bedrooms back together. We're using it as a temporary guest bedroom but it's going to be my husband's hobby room.


We installed the $3 hooks behind the door. We put down the brown rug that our son didn't want.


















We replaced the switch plates and outlet covers for $1.00.

We hung the $5 mirror on the wall that I had bought at a thrift store in the Summer. We hung the $15 curtains that I bought at Walmart a couple months ago.

We removed all the paint project supplies. My husband hung the $15 ceiling fan that we had bought about 6 yrs. ago.

My husband's stuff moved from the basement to the closet. We installed a hook inside the closet door.

Our Living Room

Welcome to our Home.  I wanted to share my living room with you today.

The living room view from the doorway.  We plan to paint this year and eventually refinish the floors.

The living room view toward the closets and entertainment center. My husband and I use the closets for our clothing and personal thing rather than the very small master closet.

Stairs Carpet

I started removing the carpet from the stairs about 2 yrs. ago. I got it off the bottom landing and the first 4 stairs.






















All these still needed done. I stopped and put it off for too long.

In February my husband and I removed the carpet from the upstairs landing.

I decide to make it my goal to get it removed by the end of the year. It had been left partially done for too long. I finally removed the carpet from all the stairs leading to the second floor.

It took about 5 hours but I'm glad it's finished. I was tired and ache but it's worth it.

Grandkids Toy Closet

Shawn and I painted the toy closet in our home for our grandkids, Arileise and Richard. After 15 yrs. in our home we have finally painted the dingy toy closet, previously the game closet while our kids were growing up. It's not perfect but I think it's perfect for us.

The bookshelf basket that I bought this Summer at the flea market for $5. Our grandkids love to read.

The toys and stuff got moved to Shawn Jr's old bedroom.

We washed the walls, puttied, sanded, and washed the walls again.

Before we moved everything back into the closet.

The newly painted toy closet for our grandkids, Arileise and Richard. This is all their toys at our home, a few we bought for them over the years and a few from our kids younger years.

We already owned the paint, the bookshelf basket, and the decor. We used the leftover robin's egg blue paint from our bathroom. The scripture picture that I had in my closet for several years works nicely with the wall color. We put the books lower that we originally had them.


 



















 The new light fixture that we got at the thrift store for $4, a longer chain $5, and a package of hook eyes $1. Shawn used eye hooks to make the chain easier for the kids to use. We still need a kick guard for the door and a pulley for the chain. It'll have cost us $15 for this project once we get the other items.
