Clutter Busting Challenge May 2015 Part 4

I'm purging 58 items this week with a total of 122 items purged for the month.

I accidentally donated 50 quart canning jars at the beginning of the month. I had thought they were the ones that I had sorted to donate and hadn't done it yet. It turns out that I did in September and now I have none. It's not a big loss, I've find cheap used ones if I need them. I'm counting them in this weeks total.

What I Did Today…

I'm a 42 yrs. old homemaker with my husband Shawn Sr., 4 grown children, 2 grandchildren, 2 son-in-laws, and a soon to be daughter-in-law. My children are Brittany 26, Nastasja 23, Shawn Jr. 22, and Brandon 19 next week. My stepdad no longer lives with us since he went into a Nursing home late December. I do keep busy but do have too much free time some days. I thought I'd share what I did today at home.

Homemaking:

Daily Routines-
I followed my Daily Routines List in my Homemaking Notebook which includes among other things my Daily Chores, my Daily Focus, and Zone Cleaning.

My Daily Chores-
I picked up the house, did laundry, dishes, took out the trash, and cared for the mail.

My Daily Focus-
Wednesday’s is Pamper Day and Date Night. I’m counting magazines as pampering for the day. My husband and I are doing an at home date tonight in our master bedroom. We're watching a movie from Redbox and sharing a sub from Subway.

Zone Cleaning-
This week my Zone Cleaning is the Living Room and Family Room. I usually clean my Zone on Monday’s but it was a Memorial Day this week so it didn’t get done. These rooms are decluttered which makes it easier to follow my Detailed Cleaning List. My family follows the put things back after use rule. I don’t have much to pick up before I clean in the Living Room besides righting pillows, refolding blankets, returning the remote to the container by the TV, and picking up dog toys. In the Family room I right pillows and make sure everyone’s personal items are in their computer spaces before I clean.

Office Tasks:

Blog-
I worked on this blog post.

Homemaking Notebook-
I placed a zipped pocket in my notebook for gift cards and a small amount of cash. I plan to buy a gift card every month to save for birthdays and celebrations. I’ll get $10 cards for birthdays and $25 for holidays and celebrations. The cash I’ll use for small purchases such as pop machines or candy bars.

Spring Notebook-
I worked on a couple list in my notebook since its the end of the month. I wanted to finish a few things up and move anything I still need into the June section of my Summer Notebook.

One a Day: Throw These 116 Things Away” List
I looked over a list that I printed in April called “One a Day: Throw These 116 Things Away.  I completed the list within a day in April but wanted to see if there was anything I could purge that I had that was leftover before the end of May. I determined that I don’t have anything to purge but I did go over the 3 areas again and they became my organizing projects for the day. #10 Magazines: I have 45 to read and purge. #14 Shoes: I'm good with my winter shoes but I do want to wear a couple pair of my summer shoes before I purge. #21: Clothes that don't fit: I'm holding on to a bag of my last size which is 8's. I haven't decided yet if I want to purge them and be happy at a size 10.

Kon Mari Category List
I’ve been working on a list that I got in the Konmari Adventures Facebook group. The list is based on the book, “The Life Changing Magic of Tiding Up by Marie Kondo”. I was able to check most everything off the list within a day since I’ve been purging for so long. I have worked on a few items on the list to purge and organize this month. I completed everything that was one the list except Magazines under Books, we did make a good dent in the shed which I’m counting as our Utility Room, and Sentimental which I did organize pictures on my computer.

The KonMari Category List includes:

  • Clothing
  •  Books
  • Papers
  •  Komono- Office/Craft, Kitchen, Pantry, Utility Room, Living Room, Children’s Room, Bathroom/Laundry Room, and Animals.
  •  Sentimental

Organizing Projects:

Magazines-
I read several older magazines, cut out pictures and words that I can use for junk journals, and ripped out recipes that I’m interested in making.

Shoes-
I looked though my shoes and identified 3 pair to consider purging after a day of wear to test drive them. I replaced all 26 pairs of shoes nicely on my shoe system.

Summer Workout Clothes-
I looked through my summer workout clothes, refolded, and replaced them nicely in the storage basket in my closet.
